BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT FOR   JOHN ALAN BORYK

 

The Reverend Doctor John Alan Boryk retired in 2009 after 40 plus years in the United Methodist Church as an Elder. His last appointment was First UMC of Park Ridge, IL.  Prior to that he served congregations in Dolton, Thornton and Harvey on the South Side.   Later he was pastor at congregations on the Rockford District including Belvidere and Rockford.

 

John Alan is married to Janet who recently retired as Director of Planned Giving at the United Methodist Foundation.  They have four adult children and four granddaughters.  They currently live in Des Plaines where John Alan is the president of their condo association.

 

He also keeps active as an Assistant Governor for Rotary District 6440, a member of the club in Park Ridge where he is speaker chair.  Each year for the past 10 years he has traveled to the jungle of eastern Guatemala with other Rotarians building a school for children of Mayan culture.

 

John Alan is the Illinois Coordinator for Stop Predatory Gambling (a volunteer position) and has interests in promoting his alma mater Aurora University.

 

John Alan grew up in the Jim Crow south attending segregated schools.  His decision to attend Aurora University made a profound difference in his life’s work and his understanding of race relations.
