ROTARY MEMBER SPOTLIGHT IS HERE!

Each month we will feature one of the many Glen Ellyn Rotary members that make such a difference in our communities. These are people that fill many roles in their day to day lives and apply Rotary values in everything they do. This month’s member is Penny Belke Borello. Many in the club affectionally refer to her as mother Rotary. She is a reliable leader, friend and someone you can always count on.

When did you become a Rotarian?
My history with Rotary began in 1988.  I was attending a Chamber meeting when I was asked by Joe D’Agostino to join.  I spoke with my father who was a member of Rotary One.  His comment was "absolutely"!  My next concern was my family.  My husband encouraged me as well.

Why did you join Rotary?
Once I had the support to join I decided that my purpose was to give back to my community. I was given many blessing in sharing the need to volunteer with my family.  I can remember many rotary projects that I involved my family.  This, in turn, gave my children a better experience in caring for others.  Our actions in Rotary showed them more than any words could express how helping others helps yourself grow.

What is your best Rotary memory?
All of my memories are the best. I value any time I am with my friends!  Whether together at a meeting, project or just at a social.

What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of Rotary?
I have the privilege to be able to try many hobbies. Golf and travel are my current interests. In the Winter, I try to perfect my skills at target shooting and baking new recipes.

What is one fun fact about you that no one might know?
My life is an open book for Rotary, but most recently my husband John and I agreed to be co-chairs for the B R Ryall 100-Year Celebration.
